The basics
Getting started
How much does a Lazy Gate cost?
Complete vertical pivot packages start at $12,995 with the motor (rackable panel) or $13,995 (standard panel). Manual packages start at $10,995. Shipping typically runs $500 to $3,500. See full pricing.
How long does the motor last?
The brushless direct-drive DC motor is rated for 5 million cycles, or 35,000 hours, and has an integrated battery backup.
What are the advantages of a vertical pivot gate over a swing gate?
- It works better in snow. The gate lifts for the plow instead of you shoveling out a swing radius first.
- Lower risk of hitting a vehicle that pulls up too close.
- It fits tighter spaces on your property.
- It doesn’t need multiple safety loops cut into the road base.
What are the power requirements?
Lazy Gate systems run on 110V, 220V or solar.
Do you offer solar-powered options?
Yes. The solar package includes a 90W panel, a solar pack (extra battery bank, inverter and charger) and a weatherproof housing box.
Will a single gate be wide enough, or do I need a double gate?
A single gate covers a road span of up to 20 feet. A double gate system covers up to 40 feet.
Sizing and finish
Size, materials and color
How tall does the gate sit when it’s closed?
There’s clearance under the gate, so a 6 ft gate leaf sits almost 7 ft in the air at the top. The standard gap between the road base and the bottom of the gate is about 10 inches, and we can drop it lower.
How is the gate length measured?
Quote the drivable space. We add 7 inches to the gate leaf for the pad overlap. Gates are steel or aluminum depending on size and weight.
What materials are the gates made from?
We have a catalog of standard gate designs, and we can custom build almost anything that fits the weight and size limits. About 80% of our gates are aluminum, for lower weight and corrosion resistance.
What colors are available?
We can powder coat almost any color. The most popular are satin black, textured black, copper vein and oil-rubbed bronze.
Do you paint or powder coat the gates?
Every Lazy Gate is powder coated, so it stands up to the weather.
Control and installation
Control, installation and safety
How do I control the gate?
Options range from simple garage-door-style remotes to keypads to phone-app control. Our systems accept any brand, so they work with the remote or access control system you already prefer.
Can you put a custom logo on the gate?
Yes. We can incorporate an existing logo, or design and laser-cut any logo or image you have in mind.
Is this a DIY project, or do I need an installer?
Either. You and a partner can install it yourselves, or you can work with one of our recommended dealers and installers.
Do I need emergency access for first responders?
Check your local code. If it’s required, or you just want it, we can provide a Fire Box (Knox Box) for first responders.
Do you only make vertical pivot gates?
No. Lazy Gate also builds swing and slide/rolling gate systems. See swing and rolling gates.
